The base is chosen by what the flag is standing on, and getting it wrong is the usual reason a flag ends up on its side in a car park. Grass and soft ground take a spike, which is the cheapest and by far the most stable option.

Hard standing needs weight instead: a folding cross base with a fillable ring, or a water bag that empties for transport and stores flat. For a permanent kerbside position, a slot mount set into concrete gives a fixing that does not need weighting at all.

The wheel plate is the one people forget. It slides under a parked vehicle tyre and uses the car itself as the ballast, which is why it is standard on dealership forecourts and at outdoor markets where nothing can be fixed down.
